The Wodaabes are a nomadic tribe of cattle herders. They live in small clans, roaming around all year so that they can feed their cattle and are mostly found in Niger, Nigeria, Chad, and Cameroon. From a very young age, girls help the women of the clan in many different ways, dealing with (the many) younger siblings being one of them. I had noticed the “deformed” foot of this beautiful little girl and I was happy to be able to photograph her. I checked with a surgeon when I got back home and was told that her deformed foot was probably a congenital malformation and that it would not impair her daily activities. I guess this is good news (relatively speaking) given how hard it would be for her to get medical help.
